Barcelona ‘confirm’ €100m Julian Alvarez bid amid Atletico denial | OneFootball

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are at odds over a €100m move for Julian Alvarez after the Madrid club publicly dismissed talk of a bid.

MD reports that Barcelona told them an offer worth €100m was emailed to Atletico sporting director Mateu Alemany on Friday.

Later that day, Atletico posted a run of tweets mocking the story, insisting no offer had arrived, that Alvarez is not for sale and that his release clause stands at €500m.

The report added that Barcelona do not want a public back-and-forth, preferring to continue their pursuit in a calm and professional manner.

Given Atletico’s public stance, it would be a major surprise if they entered negotiations with Barcelona. The statements suggest a degree of certainty that Alvarez will not be joining. Barcelona appear to view Alvarez as their primary number nine target, but will have a maximum they are willing to pay before moving on to other options.
