Following the disappointment of relegation from Spain’s third tier to the Segunda RFEF, several questions remain regarding the future of key players at Barça Atletic – FC Barcelona’s reserve team.
With Juliano Belletti being named the new manager, the squad is set to undergo a significant overhaul before the new season following the relegation to the fourth tier.
One of the most delicate situations involves Aleix Garrido, whose contract is set to expire on June 30.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Garrido – the captain of Barça Atletic – has yet to agree a renewal. His future is uncertain and, as it stands, he is more likely to leave Barcelona than to stay.
Rated highly within the Blaugrana ranks, Garrido already made his first-team debut back in the 2022/23 season under former manager Xavi Hernandez.
The 21-year-old midfielder did not get a chance to do pre-season under Hansi Flick as he was out injured since March last year, with his return materialising in November.
Garrido featured 25 times for the reserve team over the course of the season, managing two goals and three assists, but could not help them avoid relegation.
Now, with his contract expiring in two weeks and no progress made over a renewal, it appears likely that the young La Masia could end up leaving Barcelona as a free agent.
The Blaugrana also lost Juvenil A captain Hugo Alba under similar circumstances, with the 19-year-old signing for Serbian outfit OFK recently.
It remains to be seen if there is any last-minute offer from Barcelona to keep hold of Garrido or whether he ends up bidding goodbye to the club.
