La Liga champions Barcelona have this week been dealt a considerable blow on the transfer front.

This comes amid confirmation of one of the Blaugrana’s leading defensive targets, in Gonçalo Inácio, committing his future to current employers Sporting CP.

Inácio, for his part, is a highly-regarded 24-year-old central defender, currently plying his trade with Sporting and the Portuguese national team.

Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements at the back for next season, Barcelona, it is understood, have long been keeping a close eye on Inácio’s performances.

As per a report from Diario Sport, the stopper is ‘particularly liked by the sporting management’ at the Camp Nou.

Safe to say that the latest news stemming from Lisbon will therefore mark a blow for Deco and his team of directors.

This comes amid confirmation that Inácio has signed a new long-term contract with Sporting, through the summer of 2030.

The deal includes a release clause set at €60 million, considered out of Barcelona’s reach at this moment in time.
