Several Barcelona players were active in the recent international break, notably in the Spanish national team camp.

The likes of Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez and even Joan Garcia were called up for the team’s friendly games, and all had minutes for the team.

One notable miss, however, was Eric Garcia as the Spaniard was not even called up by Luis de La Fuente for the recent international break.

Well in the loop

As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano in a recent report, Garcia remains a key part of the Spanish national team despite missing out on the recent games and continues to be a serious candidate for the FIFA World Cup.

The defender was omitted from Spain’s squad during the recent break only owing to a minor injury.

He is expected to be fit to participate in Barcelona’s games after the break, as usual, and is thus well placed to make a return to the national team for the mega event.

Speaking to the media recently, the national team manager, Luis de La Fuente, even confirmed that Eric has good chances of making it to the competition.

“He has all the chances to be included into World Cup squad,” he said.

Garcia has been a key cog in Hansi Flick’s plans this season and has established himself as an undisputed starter and a quality option.

He has excelled in central defence, midfield and even the full-back positions and will bring the same versatility advantage to Luis de La Fuente’s plans.

In fact, Garcia is the Spanish centre-back who has accumulated the most minutes this season with 38 starts to his name – a clear indication of his prominence at the club level.
