Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are vying to sign Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, who could change clubs this summer.
According to Superdeporte, Atlético had advanced talks in a bid to convince the Portugal international to join Diego Simeone’s project, valuing his technique, big-game experience and versatility across midfield and attack.
The picture has shifted in recent hours with Barcelona stepping in, viewing his contract situation as a market opportunity. It is thought he would prioritise Barcelona after leaving Manchester City this summer.
One factor favouring the Catalans is that his deal is due to expire on 30 June, which would allow a move without a fee. That would make the operation more manageable given Barça’s salary cap and financial fair play limits.
Barcelona believe Silva would add know-how, creativity and flexibility to Hansi Flick’s plans. He has been admired by their recruitment team for years and has been linked with a switch before.
Atlético remain attentive and have not ruled themselves out. Simeone sees added attacking quality and experience as priorities to compete with Europe’s elite, although the player’s preference for Barcelona could yet prove decisive.
