Barcelona are searching for defensive reinforcements this summer and could raid the Premier League for a marquee addition.

According to SPORT, Barcelona have identified Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero as a potential transfer target if they miss out on Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.

Barcelona had identified Bastoni as a primary target ahead of the summer transfer window, but luring him away from the San Siro will be easier said than done.

The Nerrazurri are under no immediate pressure to cash in on one of their most valuable assets, with two years left on Bastoni’s contract.

They have slapped a remarkable €70 million price tag on Bastoni to ward off Barcelona’s interest.

Romero is on Barcelona’s radar. The 28-year-old has repeatedly voiced his desire to play in La Liga and could jump ship this summer.

However, with Inter jacking up the price for the Italian defender, Romero has moved up Barcelona’s wishlist. They have reportedly made initial contract with his representatives.

Any potential move for Romero could hinge on Tottenham’s Premier League status. If Tottenham are relegated, it would trigger a clause that would make an exit more achievable for Barcelona.
