Barcelona icon Lionel Messi has this weekend continued to etch his name into the annals of international football.

This comes after the 39-year-old found the net for the latest time in the colours of his native Argentina.

Lionel Scaloni’s troops were back in action in the early hours of Sunday, rounding out their World Cup group stage campaign in a meeting with minnows Jordan.

Messi for his part took his place on the bench from the off in Dallas, before being introduced to proceedings during the 2nd-half.

And as alluded to above, the veteran attacker went on to mark his appearance with his 6th goal in just three appearances at this summer’s World Cup.

Rifling home a free-kick from distance, Messi rounded out the scoring in a 3-1 Argentine triumph.

Not only that, but the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner made yet more history. As revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Messi is the first player to ever score in seven successive World Cup outings.
