The main priority of FC Barcelona for this summer transfer window is to sign a new center-forward, to replace Robert Lewandowski, who left the Blaugrana club at the end of the last season. For this purpose, the Catalans have a clear candidate, i.e., the Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine striker caused a stir in the market recently, as he publicly declared his intent to leave the Colchonero club this summer. Although he did not mention it in these comments, he is reportedly dreaming of donning the Barcelona jersey for the next season.
While the two clubs have entrenched themselves in their respective stances regarding this operation, some Barcelona players have already talked about their readiness to see Alvarez playing for their team for the coming season. This has particularly been the case with the midfielder Gavi, who recently spoke on this subject.
Now, another Blaugrana player has expressed his desire to welcome the Atletico Madrid forward into his team. The midfielder Pedri recently appeared in an interview with RTVE, and, among other things, talked about the Argentine forward’s links with Barcelona in the following manner:
“I think a lot of things would have to happen for that to take place. I don’t want to get involved in club matters or in a player’s personal situation. I love Julián as a player, and I’ve always said that I want the best players to be at Barça. If it happens, he’ll be welcome.”
There is no doubt that Julian Alvarez would be a very good fit for the Catalan team, and it is natural for Pedri to desire having a player of his quality in his team. However, getting him from the Mattress Makers would be anything but easy for the Blaugranes.
For now, it remains to be seen how the operation would develop after the recent public statements made by Julian Alvarez, but hopefully, Barcelona would be able to complete his signing after reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid, and without the relations between the two clubs worsening any further.
