Barcelona are set to receive a major boost ahead of their upcoming match against Sevilla, as midfielder Gavi is expected to return to the squad after a long recovery period.
According to a report from journalist Alfredo Martinez, the young Barcelona midfielder is set to receive his medical clearance today.
If everything goes according to plan during the final training session, he will be included in the matchday squad.
For Gavi, the road back has been far from easy, as suffering two serious knee injuries at such a young age is a huge challenge for any footballer.
Hence, if the final stages of his rehabilitation go as expected, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is planning for the midfielder to make his return to the pitch this Sunday.
The club’s medical and coaching staff have been extremely cautious with the player over the past few months.
Given the seriousness of the injury and his importance to the team, Barcelona wanted to ensure that there was absolutely no risk of rushing his comeback.
For that reason, every stage of the recovery process has been carefully managed.

The final decision depended on receiving the full green light from the medical team responsible for monitoring the condition of his knee.
While the club wanted to take their time, Gavi himself has reportedly been eager to return to action and help his teammates on the pitch again.
The midfielder has been out of action since undergoing surgery in September 2025 on his right knee after suffering a meniscus injury.
Recent updates have suggested that the young midfielder is now very close to receiving both medical and sporting clearance to play in official matches again.
If all goes well, his return could take place in Barcelona’s upcoming league match against Sevilla.
However, the plan is to manage his minutes carefully, meaning it is considered very unlikely that he will start the match after such a long absence.
Instead, Flick and his staff are expected to give him a short appearance from the bench.
If the situation allows, Gavi could come on during the final minutes of the match to begin rebuilding his match rhythm.
