Roony Bardghji arrived at Barcelona last summer as one of three new signings, carrying significant expectations as he was regarded as one of the most talented young players in Scandinavia.

However, his debut campaign has fallen well short of those expectations, and the upcoming summer transfer window presents a cloud of uncertainty, reports MARCA.

A season on the margins

Bardghji has finished the season as the Barcelona player with the fewest minutes, excluding those sidelined by long-term injuries.

He accumulated just 870 minutes across all competitions and started only 10 matches throughout the entire campaign.

Lamine Yamal’s extraordinary season, in which the teenager finished as joint top Spanish scorer in La Liga and cemented his status as one of the best players in the world, has completely blocked any path to a starting position on the right wing.

As Barcelona themselves acknowledged earlier this season when assessing their over-reliance on Yamal, his absence is the only scenario where others get meaningful opportunities in that role and even then, Ferran Torres has been the preferred option to deputise.

An uncertain summer ahead

The situation has been made more painful by his exclusion from Sweden’s World Cup squad, a significant setback for a player who will have hoped a strong club season would earn him a place on the plane to North America.

Back in late March, Bardghji publicly acknowledged his frustration, admitting he had expected a more prominent role. That situation did not improve in the final months of the campaign.

With Lamine Yamal untouchable and Anthony Gordon now arriving to further strengthen the wide options, Bardghji’s chances of regular football at Barcelona next season appear even more remote than before.

A loan move or permanent exit looks increasingly likely.
