Although FC Barcelona have already been crowned the champions, there is still a lot of action left in La Liga 2025-26. For instance, it still needs to be seen which two teams would join Real Oviedo to be relegated to the second division.
The Asturian side got into the first division only last season, and despite a good start to the campaign, has remained in the relegation zone for the most part. For now, it is the first side to be confirmed to be relegated.
In this context, FC Barcelona are already planning ahead for next season and, according to journalist Juan Velázquez (via SPORT), the club has already made a move regarding two of their academy prospects, Xavi Espart and Toni Fernandez, by offering them a loan spell at Oviedo for next season.
Both players are currently part of Barcelona Atlètic and have already made their first-team debuts, but opportunities have been limited in a senior squad full of competition.
As a result, the idea is for both to spend the 2026-27 season on loan in the Segunda Division, where they would be expected to gain regular minutes and continue their development in a more demanding environment.
There is even the possibility that the agreement could include a condition requiring at least 66% of total available minutes for both players, ensuring they play a meaningful role rather than a marginal one. If the deal is finalised, their contracts with Barcelona would also be extended by one more year before the loan move.
There is also a wider angle to the situation, with Barcelona working on the potential permanent signing of Joaquin Delgado, who has impressed during his spell with Barça Atlètic since arriving on loan in the winter.
While separate operations, the club’s discussions with Oviedo could also help facilitate future negotiations and potentially influence the overall financial structure of the deal.
