Barcelona have been offered a chance to sign Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi, according to Spanish news outlet SPORT.

The forgotten 27-year-old defender is one of many options offered to Barcelona as they look to provide cover for the injured Andreas Christensen.

Christensen suffered a partial tear in his anterior cruciate ligament during training – an unfortunate setback as he only just started finding his feet again.

The 29-year-old centre-back made his first start for Barcelona since September in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey clash with Guadalajara and even scored the first goal in the 2-0 win.

However, the club has revealed that he suffered an “unfortunate twist of the knee”, ruling him out for the foreseeable future.

This is the latest in a string of injuries that Christensen has suffered over the last two years.

He made just six appearances across all competitions last season, mainly due to an Achilles problem, while a calf injury sidelined him earlier in the current campaign.

With the Danish centre-back out of contract next summer, Barcelona have decided to begin exploring long-term successors, and Disasi is one of many names mooted.

Disasi has been frozen out of the Chelsea first team, with the defender not considered a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

Chelsea are exploring every possible option as they look to get him off their books, and dumping him on Barcelona is starting to look plausible.

However, the Catalan giants will have to make the final decision, with a number of other players, including Manchester City’s Nathan Ake, also under consideration.

Barcelona have a limited window to decide if they should act, knowing they can only use a portion of the Dane’s salary to register a replacement.

Manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco have made it clear that they won’t rush into a knee-jerk decision and will only bring in a player who is good enough to compete for a first-team spot.
