The World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina is going to be a win-win scenario for FC Barcelona fans. On the Spanish side, they have up to eight players from the current team, including Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia, Gavi, and Joan Garcia. On the other hand, there is their eternally beloved Lionel Messi, who would be playing for the Argentine national team.

Irrespective of which of these teams win, this final itself is an indication of the highest-class footballing talent that is being developed at the Blaugrana academy, La Masia. Messi remains one of the very best players to come out of this academy, while Lamine Yamal is also putting up a good case to become another highly prominent product of La Masia.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, who is currently in the USA to watch the final on Sunday, also highlighted this aspect as he spoke to RAC1 from Times Square. The Spaniard expressed his pride at having so many players associated with his club playing in the final:

“We are very proud of the eight players we have. It is very important for them, and as president, I am very satisfied and grateful to have players with so much talent. At the national team level, this is the best match that can be played, with different styles, and the referee will have to impose himself.

Argentina are more aggressive, while the Spanish national team play more as a unit, with a style of football more similar to Barça’s. Barça is the best there is, and everyone recognises that.”

Laporta also expressed his happiness on Lionel Messi reaching the final:

“Messi has also reached the final, and I am happy about that. He is a source of pride for La Masia. Messi is the past and the present, while Lamine is the present and the future. We are very happy to have what is the genuine Barça style of play. As president, it is a source of pride to have developed these two players at home, and if we add that we have Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Cubarsí, who is having a spectacular World Cup, Olmo, Gavi, Pedri, Ferran… It is spectacular.”

When asked about Julian Alvarez, the Barcelona president reiterated his recent comments about their offer not being unlimited and also expressed his satisfaction with the work of Deco to strengthen the Catalan team:

“We have made an offer, and Atlético must decide. The player has said that he wants to leave, but the offer is not unlimited. We will set a deadline in case Atlético change their mind. We have made a very good proposal. He is the player that Flick and Deco want, but if they do not accept, we must work on other alternatives.

Deco works very well continuously, efficiently and discreetly, as he has shown with Adeyemi. We saw it with Gordon as well. He scored (in the semi-final against Argentina) with a well-timed run. He is very fast, hardworking and presses well, and we are happy with Deco’s work. Plan B options? They are alternatives. The football director does not stop working, there are various options, and he must choose the one that is most suitable.”

The presence of Julian Alvarez on the Argentine team would be another factor that further attracts the attention of Barcelona fans in this final. He will be facing several players who can turn out to be his teammates in only a few weeks’ time, i.e., Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, and Ferran Torres, all of the Blaugrana players who are expected to play an important role in this match.
