Valencia talent Javi Tena has agreed to take his talents to La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid this summer.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have on Friday provided an insight into the situation.
Tena, for his part, is a 17-year-old Spanish youth international, who generally operates in a ‘pivot’ role at the base of midfield.
He has long been considered one of the country’s standout up-and-coming talents, boasting impressive abilities in and out of possession alike.
In turn, it has no doubt come as a blow for all associated with Valencia to learn that Tena is all set to depart the club over the weeks ahead.
Taking to his official Instagram account on Friday, the youngster wrote:
“I won’t be a prophet in my own land. I thought I’d never have to go through this, but I must leave my home to continue growing. I can’t find the words, nor do I want to, to say goodbye to the club employees who have loved, cared for, and guided me these past nine years. Rest assured, I will always do everything I can to make my team the best with the same commitment, honesty, and dedication that you have. Thank you, thank you, thank you. To my teammates today and my opponents tomorrow, thank you for your friendship and for helping me improve every day. I wish you the best on the pitch, but especially off it; this path takes no prisoners. Thank you to the club. Amunt Valencia.”
Tena’s Valencia exit comes after the two parties were unable to agree on the terms of an extension to his expiring contract.
And set to benefit from the talents of the midfielder, it is understood, are Atlético Madrid.
As per MD:
‘Despite interest from clubs like Barça and Real Madrid, Tena, who even trained with Valencia CF’s first team at 15 and 16, has opted for Atlético de Madrid.’
