Leading players from Spanish football’s two biggest clubs have secured nominations for the La Liga Player of the Month award for October.

Beginning with table-topping Real Madrid, it is Kylian Mbappé who sees his spectacular recent performance in front of goal rewarded with a place on the shortlist.

The Frenchman has notched three direct goal contributions across his two league appearances in October to date.

Turning focus towards Barcelona, and Pedri is again put forward as a contender to be named Spanish football’s best for the month.

The 22-year-old, widely considered to be one of world football’s standout performers at present, managed a goal and an assist across outings against Sevilla and Girona.

Elsewhere, also recognised for their exploits this month are Atlético Madrid shot-stopper Jan Oblak, Real Betis winger Antony, and Rayo Vallecano attacker Jorge de Frutos.

The winner of La Liga’s October Player of the Month prize is expected to be announced over the days ahead.
