The Argentine forward Julian Alvarez remains the highest-priority target for FC Barcelona as the summer transfer window approaches its last few weeks. Despite having been linked with him and several other forwards since the end of the last season, the Blaugranes have still not been able to land a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Meanwhile, the saga involving the Catalan club, Atletico Madrid, and Alvarez continues to unfold, and there has been an important development in this regard. As MARCA has reported, Barcelona have now received a notification from RFEF and FIFA following a complaint filed by the Colchoneros.

The Mattress Makers are asking for a formal investigation into the matter as they believe the Blaugrana club being in contact with one of their key players, who still has a contract till June 2030, outside of the transfer window is an extraordinary disciplinary offence.

The arrival of the notification is a routine event in such legal matters, and it now marks the start of the appeals process. The Catalans will now have to present their defense and version of the facts before the relevant authorities analyze the case and make a decision on it.

The Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin had recently declared that his club would approach the involved authorities to defend its interests in this matter, and the complaint they filed is a direct result of that strategy.

It remains to be seen how this legal matter will be resolved, while Barcelona continue to see the Argentine as a key target going forward, while Atletico Madrid remain adamant that Julian Alvarez is not for sale.

10 August is expected to be a decisive date in this transfer, as this is the date when the Colchoneros have scheduled the forward to return to training, and whether he reports to his club on that date will provide Barcelona with a clear indication of what the Argentine’s plans are.
