Barcelona left St James' Park with a draw after Newcastle had the better of the contest, but the point came at a cost. Hansi Flick's side finished with fresh concerns over multiple players.

In the second half several Blaugrana felt hamstring tightness. Marc Bernal was withdrawn on 75 minutes and Ronald Araujo followed 10 minutes later, while Eric Garcia did not start due to pre-match muscle discomfort. Per Sport, post-match assessments offered mixed news.

Flick had planned to start Garcia in England, and the versatile defender is his most used player this season. An assessment in Barcelona indicated a minor strain, which was not considered an injury per se. Depending on how it evolves before Sunday, he could be available to face Sevilla, more likely from the bench with a view to starting next week.

There was brighter news for Bernal and Araujo, who were taken off with cramp rather than injury. Both should, in theory, be ready for Sevilla if they get sufficient rest. Bernal said afterwards he was fine and that it was just cramp.

The strain on depth was evident as 18-year-old Xavi Espart was pressed into a debut in a difficult moment. Barcelona are already without Gavi, Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde.
