Barcelona bid goodbye to Inigo Martinez during the summer transfer window, but opted not to sign any replacements as Hansi Flick put his trust in the existing defensive contingent at the club.

However, Andreas Christensen’s contract expires at the end of the season and is unlikely to be renewed, creating a potential vacancy. Furthermore, Ronald Araujo’s performances continue to create doubts over his reliability.

As such, the possibility of a new centre-back signing in 2026 is very much on the agenda. Recent reports have suggested that the Catalans would prefer signing a left-footed player, such as Nico Schlotterbeck or Goncalo Inacio.

Marc Guehi on Barcelona’s radar

However, now, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona are also ‘seriously involved’ in the transfer race for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

The England international is out of contract at the end of the season and has no plans to renew it, meaning he will be available for free in the summer.

That is something that is bound to appeal to Barcelona, given their financial situation, even though Guehi is not a left-footed centre-back.

However, the La Liga champions will have to contend with some major competition in the race to sign Guehi as several other top clubs are also in the race.

Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern want Guehi

Indeed, as per the report, Bayern Munich are also strongly interested in signing Guehi, with their sporting director, Max Eberl, a big admirer of the player.

In fact, there have been some talks held already between the German champions and the defender’s representatives.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, who came very close to signing Guehi last summer, also remain seriously interested in acquiring his services in 2026.

At the same time, Barcelona’s bitter rivals, Real Madrid, are also very much in the race to sign the former Chelsea centre-half.

So, it remains to be seen how things unfold as far as Guehi’s future is concerned, with Barcelona emerging as one of the possible destinations for him.
