Although it was FC Barcelona who wrapped up the La Liga title last week, their eternal rivals, Real Madrid, have taken most of the media spotlight, mostly for negative reasons.

Among the many eventful things that have happened at the Merengue club, there has also been the press conference and an interview by the club president, Florentino Perez.

During these appearances, the top Real Madrid official once again talked about the Negreira case, and also made the claim that up to seven league titles were stolen from him, and that Barcelona was the main beneficiary of refereeing corruption in Spain.

Naturally, these comments have caused quite some unease at the Catalan club, and they are considering taking a legal route towards the matter.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo reports that Fermin Lopez was also asked about the matter during his appearance on the programme Què T’hi Jugues on Cadena SER, where he responded calmly but clearly to the controversy.

“Yes, we have seen it like everyone else, but we always focus on what happens here,” he said when first reacting to the question about Florentino Pérez’s remarks.

He then expanded on his view without hesitation, making his position on the claims very clear.

“Everyone has their own view of things. I think it is not correct to say that Barça stole seven leagues because they had Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi. It’s impossible. We don’t care either. We are on our own path, we don’t care what happens outside Barça, we are very focused on our own things.”

Pressed further on the subject, the midfielder maintained the same stance and underlined his focus on Barcelona’s present situation.

“I don’t care because everyone can say what they want, but I don’t think it was right to say it. We are very focused on what is happening at Barça, which is in a very good moment. Titles will surely come, and we are very happy with what we are doing.”

Fermin also spoke about the rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, putting the situation into perspective while acknowledging the intensity that always surrounds these fixtures.

“The rivalry is the same because it has always existed, just as for them, we are their rivalry. I think they also don’t like being bothered by these things, because this is football. We don’t disrespect any player or team. I can’t understand it, but in the end, it is normal to be angry when you lose. But when they win, they will do the same, and we will accept it.”

Finally, the Barcelona midfielder was also clear when addressing any future speculation about a possible move to Real Madrid, shutting the door firmly on that idea.

“I am a Barça prototype player; it is impossible for me to go to Madrid, I am always Barça.”

With his performances and mentality continuing to grow in importance for Hansi Flick’s side, Fermin once again showed both personality and clarity off the pitch, reinforcing his place as part of Barcelona’s present and future.
