Barcelona star Ferran Torres has shark named after him in special tribute | OneFootball

Meanwhile, another Barcelona player who has done considerable social and ecological work is the forward Ferran Torres, and one area of interest for him has been marine life. Thus, keeping in view his work in this area and his nickname, “The Shark”, Mundo Deportivo reports that Oceanografic Aquarium in Valencia has named a grey reef shark after him.

The Oceanografic explained the decision in the following words:

“As recognition of the Valencian footballer’s connection with marine conservation and, especially, his efforts to raise social awareness about the importance of protecting these animals.”

The species named after the Barcelona forward is a grey reef shark approximately 2 meters long, which is listed as endangered.

For two years, 2024 and 2025, the Spanish forward also served as an ambassador for the Oceanografic Foundation, and he gained extensive knowledge about sharks during this time. He once led around 100 participants from his summer camp to the aquarium for an educational day.

Ferran Torres has frequently celebrated his nickname, “The Shark”, in his social media posts, and there is no doubt that this latest honor would be a source of great happiness for the forward, as he continues to face an uncertain future at Barcelona.
