Barcelona star Gavi has revealed his take that Argentina counterpart Leandro Paredes should not be harshly punished for his actions in the aftermath of the World Cup final.
This comes with the young midfielder understanding of the fact that 32-year-old’s emotions got the better of him.
Paredes was of course at the heart of an ugly brawl in the aftermath of this past weekend’s World Cup showpiece. After Argentina were condemned to a deserved 1-0 defeat, the Boca Juniors man completely lost the run of himself.
First, Paredes floored Eric García, before grabbing the throat of the Barcelona defender. After Gavi entered the scene to defend his Blaugrana teammate, the Argentine then turned his anger towards the 21-year-old, repeatedly pushing and dragging him to the turf.
Speaking during an exchange with the media on Tuesday, Gavi was therefore asked for his thoughts on the incident, as well as a potential sanction for Paredes.
And the Spaniard showed class and wisdom beyond his years with his response, in explaining:
“I don’t think he should be suspended. Logically, he should have been sent off during the match. It’s not a great image for kids, but I think there’s that part of football that’s a bit more violent.”
