Barcelona talent wins over Hansi Flick with pre-season performance set to define his future | OneFootball

Brian Farinas has emerged as one of the surprise names of Barcelona’s pre-season, with the midfielder doing enough to convince Hansi Flick to put any decision over his future on hold.

According to SPORT, Barcelona sporting director Deco recently met with the player’s representatives, where all parties agreed that Farinas would complete the club’s entire pre-season programme before a final decision is made. 

Once the summer preparations come to an end, Barcelona will determine whether the academy graduate is ready to remain with the first team or whether a permanent transfer is the best step for his development.

For now, one option has already been entirely ruled out. 

Returning to Barça Atlètic is no longer considered part of the plan, as both the club and the player believe he needs a bigger challenge after last season’s progress.

Before pre-season began, Barcelona were close to reaching an agreement that would have seen Farinas join Girona in a deal worth around €1.5 million.

The move appeared to be heading towards completion until Flick stepped in.

The German coach wanted a closer look at the midfielder before approving any transfer, and Farinas has taken full advantage of that opportunity. 

His performances in training have left a positive impression on the Barcelona manager, prompting the club to freeze negotiations while his progress is assessed.

Furthermore, Girona were also unable to agree to the conditions proposed by Barcelona, but the decisive factor behind the collapse of the deal was Flick’s belief.

The agreement between Deco and the player’s camp is straightforward. 

Farinas will remain with the first-team group throughout pre-season before Barcelona decide whether he has earned a permanent place under Flick or whether a transfer represents the best sporting solution.

The midfielder still has further opportunities to strengthen his case, as he is expected to feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Club Esportiu Europa before travelling with the squad to England for the next phase of pre-season.

Those matches will give Flick an even clearer picture of whether the La Masia graduate is ready to make the step up to senior football on a regular basis.
