The countdown is on for Barcelona’s return to competitive action, with the new season starting on Saturday night away to Mallorca.

Head coach Hansi Flick is finalising preparations after a pre-season once again dominated by the issue of player registrations.

Robert Lewandowski ruled out

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona superstar striker Robert Lewandowski has been pretty much ruled out of the trip to Son Moix this weekend.

The Polish forward is struggling with discomfort in his left hamstring, the same problem that kept him out of the Joan Gamper Trophy, and he appears set to miss the league opener as well.

Lewandowski has been absent from full training all week and was again unable to join the group on Thursday, making his inclusion highly unlikely.

In that case, Ferran Torres is expected to start as the centre-forward for Barcelona against Mallorca, especially with Marcus Rashford yet to be registered in La Liga.

Jules Kounde and Marc Casado also worked away from the main group, but in their cases it was part of a load management plan, and their participation is not in doubt

Meanwhile, Joan Garcia will be registered following the La Liga Medical Commission’s green light on Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s long-term absence, and he will travel to Palma.

But the availability of Rashford and Roony Bardghji remains uncertain, and both could be left behind in Barcelona.

Attention will now turn to Flick’s press conference on Friday at midday, when the German coach is expected to provide clarification and announce his first official squad list of the season.
