Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has turned out to be a remarkable addition for the Blaugrana.

“I didn’t make any crucial saves today. I had to pretend I was doing something,” he said.

“Having fun?” the reporter asked, to which he added, “Yeah, I was just there, in a semifinal.”

The goalkeeper, who came out of retirement to play for Barcelona, added that sometimes it is okay to sit back and defend a lead.

“We played a good game. Of course, Atlético pushed hard at the end because they had to score. They launched their players into attack, but we were very confident.”

He noted that while the Catalan team wanted to push for another goal, Atletico’s desires were heavier.

“It was a semifinal and they needed a goal to reach extra time and try to win the tie, so it’s normal that we sat back a little.

“That doesn’t mean we didn’t want a second goal and a third; you have to suffer a little, but they didn’t have a single shot on target. A professional performance.”

The Polish goalkeeper has expressed his excitement about Barcelona’s ongoing campaign. With each game holding significant value, Szczesny acknowledges the importance of staying focused and delivering strong performances.

“We’re at that stage of the season where every game is very important, a final. We have the dream of doing something big this season and we have the opportunity to do it, so we’ll give it our all,” he said.

The former Juventus and Arsenal player is thoroughly enjoying his time at Barcelona.

He has admitted that playing for the club feels different compared to his previous experiences, highlighting both the effectiveness and beauty of Barcelona’s gameplay.

“Yes, without a doubt. I can’t deny that they’re also the most effective team. This game was my 19th without losing,” he added.
