It has been clear since last week that Dro Fernandez is in his last few days as an FC Barcelona player. Days after turning 18, the La Masia gem decided to move to PSG instead of extending his contract at the club.

His revelation came as a rude shock to Hansi Flick, who had made him a key part of his first-team plans. The German manager has even given the teenager a couple of starts this season and kept him in the first-team picture.

Dro is said to have a release clause of around €6m, which PSG are looking to trigger to sign him permanently. However, according to SPORT, Barcelona are exploring an alternative solution to earn a bit more money.

In other words, the Catalan club is looking to replicate the Dembele formula with Dro Fernandez, whereby they reached an agreement with PSG to pay a final transfer fee of around €50.4m on more favourable terms, slightly higher than his release clause.

Similarly, Barcelona feel they deserve somewhere around €10m as they part ways with one of their more talented youngsters, and view this as one final gesture that the player owes La Masia for all the years of development.

PSG and Barcelona do not have a great club-to-club relationship, making any such arrangement that much more difficult, but it is up to the two parties to come together and reach an amicable solution in the 18-year-old’s case.

Dro Fernandez is definitely leaving Barcelona. Whether it happens via PSG triggering his release clause or agreeing on a payment structure with the Catalan club remains to be seen in the coming days.
