Real Madrid have attracted a lot of attention lately on account of their frontal attack on the quality of refereeing in the recent match against Espanyol.

Real Madrid believe they were wronged by the referee, who did not award a red card to Espanyol defender Carlos Moreno for his lunging tackle on Kylian Mbappe.

In the aftermath, Real Madrid have launched an official complaint to RFEF and CSD, blaming the referee, the VAR team and asking for reforms in the refereeing system.

Barcelona to remain silent on the issue

At a time when Real Madrid’s four-letter statement has drawn all sorts of controversy within the Spanish football, Barcelona have remained rather quiet.

As reported by Fernando Polo (h/t FCB World), it appears Barça will continue to remain silent on the matter as the club do not want to add fuel to the fire.

There is, however, a great surprise within the Barcelona camp surrounding the reaction from Real Madrid.

The Blaugrana believe the refereeing calls and VAR outcomes have greatly favoured Real Madrid, which is why the club are surprised the Merengues are launching such a frontal attack.

Barcelona, though, have no desire to get into this matter. The club are currently enjoying a period of relative calm, focusing on their performance on the pitch rather than off-field controversies.

Engaging in this particular dispute could potentially disrupt this tranquility and might lead to further complications with the referees.

It must be noted that Real Madrid remained silent and avoided any provocation during Barcelona’s attempts to force the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, earlier in the year.

By not opening up about the ongoing issue, it appears Barcelona are paying back, of sorts.
