Barcelona will face a past transfer target in their meeting with Newcastle | OneFootball

La Liga giants Barcelona will lock horns with a player to have been targeted by the club’s transfer brass over recent years during their upcoming meeting with Newcastle United.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Bruno Guimarães as the player in question.

Midfielder Guimarães will for his part be expected to play a leading role on Thursday night, upon Newcastle welcoming Barcelona to St. James’ Park for a Champions League showdown.

The Brazilian has long stood as one of the Magpies’ most pivotal players, continuing to excel on both sides of the ball from his berth in the middle of the park.

As alluded to above, though, had things played out differently, Guimarães could have found himself lining out for the upcoming visitors to Tyneside.

As per a report from Sport:

‘The Brazilian midfielder was the object of desire for Deco when he combed, in 2023 and 2024, the market in search of a player who would fill the void left by Sergio Busquets when he left for Inter Miami.’

In the end, any potential deal for Barcelona was derailed by Newcastle’s massive financial demands of €100 million.
