Heading into the summer transfer window, the only guarantee, as far as FC Barcelona’s goalkeeping department is concerned, is that Joan Garcia will be the undisputed first-choice starter.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen will once again be staring at an uncertain future once his loan spell at Girona comes to an end.
Meanwhile, veteran stopper Wojciech Szczesny also finds himself in a delicate situation, with Barça showing interest in Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro.
Now, according to AS, Barcelona hold a clause allowing them to terminate Szczesny’s contract in the summer by paying compensation of approximately €2 million.
The veteran Pole, who will turn 36 years old in April, is currently contracted until 2027 after he signed an extension last year.

The deal has a provision for the club to part ways in June, but it would require them to compensate the player by paying €2 million.
Szczesny is highly valued within the Catalans’ dressing room for both his on-field contributions and his leadership since joining on an emergency basis following the injury to Ter Stegen in September 2024.
His relationship with the coaching staff remains strong. As such, club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are keen to handle any decision carefully, recognising his positive influence within the squad.
So far this season, Szczesny has made 10 appearances across all competitions, filling in for Joan Garcia when he was out injured, keeping one clean sheet and conceding 17 goals.
With not much time left before the season ends, Barcelona have some important decisions to make with regard to their goalkeeping department.
