The current situation of each player at FC Barcelona is unique for them. Certain players are considered guaranteed starters, while others are not promised any minutes. Ultimately, it is up to Barcelona to find a satisfactory resolution for each of them.

Fortunately, the summer transfer window affords them the luxury of getting to handle certain situations through new transfer operations. Already this summer, Barcelona have offloaded certain players who would not have significant roles next season and have financially benefited from such deals.

However, they were not the last of such operations that the club might have to address this summer. In fact, the most obvious case remains that of German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who is not expected to play a major part next season and is seen as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Joan Garcia and the newly-renewed Wojciech Szczesny.

Yet, even with the player’s sporting role being diminished, he remains adamant about staying at the club. However, with his high salary, it is difficult to rationally make sense of why Barcelona would want to keep him under any circumstances.

Instead of an exit, however, it seems that the club intends to just let him be. According to the latest update from SPORT, Barcelona will not look to force an exit or even a sale for the 33-year-old club captain this summer. In fact, the report claims that only a mutual termination of his contract would be considered.

Moreover, the club would only go down that route if the player himself agrees to it or says that he wants it openly. Only in that case would Barcelona reportedly grant him a letter of freedom so that they can avoid any unwanted drama or unnecessary conflict.

Respect for the captain remains unquestionable

For Barça, respect towards the club captain is something that must remain absolute. It is even being reported that the club will take him along for the preseason tour, and he will remain under Hansi Flick’s orders as well.

As for his recent absences from the team’s training sessions, the coaching staff is believing his word regarding his physical discomfort. They believe there is no reason for the player to not admit what is really happening, and for that reason he continues to train on his own for now.
