Barcelona will study offers for homegrown midfielder if he asks to leave

As reported a while back, FC Barcelona are not closing the doors on the possibility of Marc Bernal leaving on loan before the end of this month so that he can play regularly.

After all, the 18-year-old midfielder has found minutes hard to come by this term and things will only get harder once Gavi returns from injury next month.

Bernal’s fellow La Masia midfielder Marc Casado also finds himself in a similar situation, with game time coming at a premium.

Barcelona will not in Casado’s way if he asks to leave

As such, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona would not stand in Casado’s way if he were to ask to leave in search of minutes, although that is not the intention of the coaching staff.

The 22-year-old midfielder enjoyed his breakthrough last season, establishing himself as a regular starter with Bernal out with an ACL injury and Frenkie de Jong sidelined as well.

However, the past ten months or so – ever since De Jong returned to full fitness – have been difficult for the homegrown talent as his prominence within the squad has been on a slow decline.

Casado has played only 786 minutes this season across 18 appearances in all competitions, finding himself behind Pedri, De Jong, Eric Garcia, and Bernal in the pecking order, with Gavi’s impending return set to complicate matters further.

The possibility of him filling in as cover at right-back had been discussed, but Joao Cancelo’s imminent arrival closes that door as well.

As such, the report states that if an offer were to arrive that he wished to accept, Barcelona would study it together with the player.

However, so far, Casado has not asked to leave Barça after having already turned down offers in the summer. So, it seems unlikely that he will look for a way out before the January window closes.
