Barcelona youngster’s Ajax switch in jeopardy as Dutch side near alternative signing | OneFootball

Having already completed two new signings, i.e., Anthony Gordon for Newcastle United and Hamza Abdelkarim by exercising the purchase option on him, FC Barcelona are now seemingly also focusing on several exit operations.

In fact, they have already officially completed one of these departures, i.e., that of the goalkeeper Inaki Pena, who joins the Greek side Panathinaikos in exchange for €3 million.

Another player whom the Catalans are looking to send on loan for the upcoming season is the fullback Jofre Torrents, as they believe that he is ready to take the next step in his career, and a loan to a side with which he can play regularly would benefit him quite a lot.

Barcelona had also found a club that is historically known for developing young talents that was interested in the defender, i.e., the Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam.

However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, Torrents’ move to the Eredivisie side is now in doubt, as they are already close to tying down another fullback, Caio Henrique, from AS Monaco, for €10 million fixed and a maximum of €3 million in add-ons. For now, the Dutch side has only to agree on a contract with the player himself.

Still, this avenue is not entirely closed for Jofre Torrents, as Ajax can opt to sign yet another fullback. Michel, who has recently joined the Dutch club after leaving Girona, reportedly wanted the young Barcelona defender in his team, while the presence of Jordi Cruyff in the sporting structure of the Eredivisie side can also facilitate a move.

For now, it remains to be seen whether the young fullback would get to join the Dutch side, or Barcelona will find another club interested in him, where he can continue his growth and development, and hopefully, ready himself for first team duties farther down in the future.
