Barella: ‘Inter attitude is how you win titles’ | OneFootball

Nicolò Barella was the Inter captain this evening and believes scraping a stoppage-time win away to Young Boys is ‘how you win Cups and titles,’ while Juventus represent ‘Scudetto contenders.’

The Nerazzurri found it hard going at the Stadion Wankdorf in Bern, as the hosts had several chances and hit the woodwork, while Marko Arnautovic saw his penalty saved by David von Ballmoos at the dawn of the second half.

It was only when the star men came off the bench that they managed to snatch the winner, with Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco setting up Marcus Thuram.

“It was an open game and we should’ve done better at the start, where we didn’t take our chances and they took courage from that,” Barella told Amazon Prime Italia and Sky Sport Italia.

“We tried to control it a bit too much at the start, so must learn that there are no easy games in the Champions League. When you think you’re comfortable, that’s when the match can get complicated and then it’s difficult to get it back on track.”

Does the fact that three substitutes combined to create the goal mean that Inter’s squad rotation had been a mistake at this level?

“The attitude of those who came off the bench was fantastic and this is how you win Cups and League titles,” insisted Barella.

“We really showed our character by fighting to the end for all three points. Getting the win was a confidence-booster.”

They now have seven points after three Champions League matches and have not conceded a single goal in this tournament, putting them in seventh place, which would be enough to go straight into the knockouts without a play-off stage.

Inter have now won their last five competitive matches and their next test is the Derby d’Italia against rivals Juventus in Serie A on Sunday.

“They are a strong team who invested heavily on the transfer market and signed a talented coach. They are Scudetto contenders, but we will keep looking only at our own progress and see what happens at the end.”
