Bayer Leverkusen close in on Afonso Moreira | OneFootball

Following the appointment of Carles Martínez (42) as head coach last week, Bayer Leverkusen are moving quick in the transfer market. After securing the signing of Hertha Berlin’s Kennet Eichhorn (17), the Bundesliga side are closing in on their next target, Lyon’s Afonso Moreira (21).

According to a report from BILD, Leverkusen are expected to pay between €25m and €30m for Moreira, who scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for OL in 2025/26.

Additionally, Martínez – who coached Ligue 1 side Toulouse last season – knows the Portuguese winger well following his time in France. BILD report that Martínez personally spoke with Moreira, who joined Lyon from Sporting Lisbon in July 2025 for €2m.

Leverkusen, while missing out on a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, will also have the necessary funds to complete the deal with Piero Hincapié expected to complete his permanent transfer to Arsenal for €60m.
