Speaking to the Spielmacher Podcast (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayer Leverkusen’s Robert Andrich has revealed what he said to Florian Wirtz about a potential move to Bayern Munich

Last summer, the 22-year-old was the subject of a transfer saga between Liverpool and Bayern as the latter practically threw the book at Wirtz to try and get him to move to Munich; however, he would ultimately decide to move to Liverpool for €125m.

Leverkusen captain Andrich has spoken about what he said to Wirtz on a move in the summer:

“Please don’t go to Bayern” – “I honestly thought he’d go there. I told him at some point: Please don’t do it. Don’t do this to us. You can say that for German football, we need German talents to stay here – but in the end there’s only Bayern Munich at the very top when we talk about quality like Flo’s. I wanted him to go abroad. I told the Bayern guys that, too. I was happy for him that he took the step. I wouldn’t have thought he’d dare to go abroad so soon.”

Andrich on his ex-Leverkusen teammate’s slow start:

Following his move to Liverpool, the spotlight was immediately on Wirtz, and it was a perfect storm as he found himself in a struggling side, whilst also adapting to a new team and new country.

On the 22-year-old’s slow start to life in England, Andrich said:

“I don’t think it’s bad that he needs a little time. I know him well enough to know that it doesn’t bother him as much as one might think, because he simply has a very good environment with his parents and his family,”

However, Wirtz has now started to show his true quality. In the past six games in all competitions, the former Leverkusen star has three goals and two assists.
