The Bundesliga season reached its finale on Saturday as Bayern Munich, champions for weeks, thrashed Cologne 5-1 with a Harry Kane hat-trick. Stuttgart clinched next season’s Champions League with a 2-2 draw at Frankfurt, while Wolfsburg earned the relegation play-off by winning 3-1 at Sankt Pauli.
L'Équipe reports that Sankt Pauli and Heidenheim go down with 26 points, with Wolfsburg finishing 16th to face the side who end third in the second tier.
Koulierakis opened the scoring on 37 minutes, Ceesay levelled on 57, then Vasilj put through his own net seven minutes later. Pejcinovic sealed it on 80 to secure the play-off berth for Wolfsburg. Heidenheim never recovered against Mainz, beaten 0-2 by first-half goals from Tietz and Amiri.
Stuttgart had been two up away through Andres and Nartey before Burkardt equalised with a late penalty double. Dortmund will also join Bayern in the Champions League after a controlled win at Werder Bremen, secured by Guirassy and Yan Couto.
Hoffenheim held on to fifth, qualifying for the Europa League for the fourth time in their history despite a 4-0 loss at Mönchengladbach. Leverkusen, held 1-1 by Hamburg, finish sixth.
