Thomas Müller has been linked with a future role at FC Bayern for months. Oliver Kahn has now commented on these ideas and expressed clear doubts.
Time and time again, the record champions have been discussing the possibility of involving the club legend in a position of responsibility after his active career. However, the 36-year-old is currently still under contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps and continues to play at a high level.
However, Oliver Kahn is critical of such a development. In an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the former CEO made it clear that sporting success alone is not enough: „Even if you are a world champion and have won everything, you need other skills to be in charge of a club. These are more complex today than ever. I don’t think you can do it without experience and further training.“
The former Bayern boss also referred to the increased demands in modern soccer: „Today, a club has to develop its own programs and ideas: What is the right way for someone in such a role? How is he involved in which area and when? To believe that you will bring in a former player at some point because of his past is not enough.“

While Kahn formulates clear requirements, Müller himself has recently been much more open. In a talk round, the attacking player explained with regard to a possible future in Munich: „I’m not one to rule anything out. I generally let it come to me.“
The veteran also emphasized his fundamental approach to new tasks: „If a door was just a crack open and I wanted to get in, I’ve always managed to do that in the past.“ The attacker did not mention any specific plans.
His current focus remains on his active career in the MLS, so a possible return to FC Bayern in a different role remains an open topic.
