Bayern needed a strong response after their 3-1 loss against Arsenal in the Champions League in midweek. Vincent Kompany made a few changes to the side, with Dayot Upamecano given a much-needed breather.

Kim Min-jae, coming in for Upamecano, failed to stop Hountondji, who coolly finished after Bayern gave away possession cheaply.

Lennart Karl curled his effort from the right-hand side and beat the keeper, but unfortunately, it hit the woodwork.

Moments later, Harry Kane was put through on goal by Luis Diaz. He takes a shot with his left foot, but he couldn’t keep it on target.

In the 34th minute, Tom Bischof struck cleanly with his left foot, but once again it hit the frame, without harming the scoreline.

Two minutes before half-time, Bayern equalized after a moment of sheer brilliance from Diaz. The Colombian back-heeled the ball while he fell on the ground to find Gurreiro, who made no mistake to put the ball into the net.

The visitors barely created chances, and they parked the bus to frustrate Bayern.

While they retained the lion’s share of possession, it took them until the 65th minute to create a clear-cut opportunity. Michael Olise, coming from the bench, produced a brilliant cross from the right, but Bischof could not hit the target from close range.

Five minutes later, Olise produced an outrageous pass putting Kane through on goal, but Pyrka made a sliding dive to clear the danger.

Kane came close to increasing the lead for Bayern, but his shot from inside the box hit the post, much to the frustration of the home side.

Just when it felt like Bayern were heading for a draw, they broke St Pauli’s heart with two stoppage-time goals.

Joshua Kimmich delivered a magnificent cross with his left foot into the box, and Diaz rushed in from behind to tuck home from close range.

With seconds remaining, St Pauli pushed all players forward for an equaliser, and it led to a counter-attack. Serge Gnabry snatched the ball in midfield and passed it to Jackson, who took the ball into the box before finishing it with great composure.

Bayern Munich vs St Pauli: Here at CF Bayern Insider, we have rated the players out of 10.

Manuel Neuer – 5

For the third game in a row, Bayern conceded the first goal, and there is a feeling that Neuer probably could have done better.

Tom Bischof – 7

Kompany continues to use Bischof as a left-back, and the youngster does not disappoint. He made a fantastic shot that hit the goal frame.

Kim Min-jae – 4

The South Korean did make a fantastic pass to Diaz that eventually led to the equaliser, but his first duty is to defend – could he have done better to prevent the goal?

Jonathan Tah – 7

In the absence of Dayot Upamecano, Tah marshalled the defence and barely put a foot wrong. He made six clearances and won five of his six aerial duels.

Konrad Laimer – 4

Laimer made a mess while controlling the pass from Kimmich that led to St Pauli’s goal. He also looked rusty in the first half, and his buccaneering runs into the box were missing. Taken off at the break.

Alexander Pavlovic – 7

Another terrific performance from the young midfielder who drove the ball forward. He maintained 95% passing accuracy, and it does not come as a surprise that Manchester United is so keen about signing him.

Joshua Kimmich – 7

Kimmich has been arguably one of the most consistent performers for Bayern this season, and he delivered once again when his team needed him most.

Luis Diaz – 9

MOTM. What a signing he has proved to be! We have seen some of his crazy skills already, but today he proved to be the matchwinner, the stoppage-time winner that sealed all three points. Also, a special mention goes to his awareness of finding Gurreiro in the box.

Raphael Gurreiro – 7

Many wonder why Kompany is using him in the number 10 role when he is such an accomplished left-back. He proved it by scoring the equaliser.

Lennart Karl – 6

Unlucky not to have got his name on the scoresheet, but he was lively in the first half when the rest of the team lacked intensity.

Harry Kane – 5

On another day, Kane could have scored twice, but today was not the day. It was a quiet performance from him.

Substitute

Michael Olise – 6

Josip Stanisic – NA

Serge Gnabry – 6

Leon Goretzka – NA
