A “Canadian-Playoff-Bearded” Thomas Müller continues to stroll through the MLS playoffs with his new club. The current Vancouver Whitecaps professional nevertheless still keeps an eye on his Bundesliga outfit; hitherto the only professional footballing club he represented in his long and storied career. Müller, like everyone else on the planet, is amazing at what Bayern Munich are accomplishing with Harry Kane.
“Bayern is currently probably the hottest team in Europe,” Müller remarked in a recent interview with Kicker. “Their dominant football is really fun to watch. I remain deeply connected to my old club and have a ‘hotline’ to the team.“
When it came to the question of whether Bayern’s star England striker Harry Kane (21 goals and five assists for Bayern in 14 appearances across all competitions) is presently the best footballer in the world, Müller was a tad evasive. Ultimately, however, he had to give his fellow veteran (who has also scored seven goals for country over the past 10 months) plenty of plaudits.
“I’m not surprised that he’s putting up such numbers,” Müller said of Kane. “But how he does it – defending as an all-rounder, distributing balls, finding through passes – that is really impressive. I’m often asked if he’s currently the best player in the world. In my footballing mind, there is no such thing as the best player. Too many factors play a role. But if there were a best player, he would be a very hot candidate right now.”
