Felix Nmecha has impressed at the World Cup—and in doing so, has fueled the rumor mill. According to a rumor from Spain, FC Bayern is also said to be in the running for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder. But BVB is apparently making a hefty demand.

By the time the World Cup rolled around, Felix Nmecha had certainly caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs with his strong performances. Now, Bayern Munich is reportedly considering a move—ironically, for a player from their Bundesliga rival in Dortmund.

According to fichajes.net, the midfielder is now even considered Munich’s “top target” for the upcoming summer transfer window. The interest is said to be “serious” and is causing “a flurry of activity” at the club’s offices on Säbener Straße. Coach Vincent Kompany is reportedly the driving force behind the move, but the rest of the club’s leadership is also said to view a signing favorably.

The sticking point is the transfer fee. According to the report, BVB is determined not to let Nmecha go for less than 120 million euros. That amount would set a new transfer record for the Bundesliga—no club in Germany’s top flight has ever spent that much money on a single player.

Nmecha would be a record transfer

The current record is held by FC Bayern itself: in 2023, the Munich club signed Harry Kane for around 95 million euros. Even faced with a record-breaking offer, the German record champions are not necessarily expected to shy away this time. However, fichajes.net acknowledges that the asking price would pose an enormous hurdle even for Bayern.

On top of that, plans are already underway at Säbener Straße involving other players. The transfer of Ismail Saibari from PSV Eindhoven is considered a done deal, and negotiations for Nathaniel Brown of Eintracht Frankfurt are already well underway. Munich is expected to invest between 50 and 55 million euros for the two World Cup participants—which alone would total around 100 million euros in spending.

If Bayern were to actually make a move for Nmecha, the total would increase significantly once again. Competition here would be fierce: Several top English clubs are also said to be monitoring the situation and considering making their own moves. Manchester United, Liverpool FC, and Arsenal FC have been mentioned.
