Bayonne president Santiago Cucci has issued a sharp response to Angoulême coach David Giguel after the latter insulted Alain Pochat in the wake of a 5-0 National 2 defeat in Bayonne.
The club said in a statement that it was surprised by direct insults aimed at its manager and, as Group A’s third-placed side, called on the Fédération française de football to assess whether the remarks meet standards expected of a coach on the BEPF course. It added that it normally lets such declarations go unanswered, trusting the pitch to put things in their place, and signed off that press conferences soon fade while scorelines remain.
Following the match at the Stade Didier-Deschamps on Friday 27 February, the 55-year-old criticised the welcome received and targeted Pochat during his pre-match media conference ahead of hosting Bordeaux on Friday at 20:00. The club’s YouTube video later omitted those remarks.
The response also referenced the BEPF’s elite pathway, stressing that exemplariness and respect are among its earliest lessons, and left the matter for the authorities to judge.
Giguel did not join the customary post-match collation, perhaps occupied by analysing the result, so he did not witness players from both sides sharing a convivial moment.
