“It was a tough start to the season because I missed pre-season,” Redknapp explained. “It took me a bit of time to get fit but, when I got my chance, I took it.
"One of the highlights for me was the 5–0 win against Wigan and that was a big moment this season. I just want to help the team as much as possible whenever I’m called upon."
Redknapp joined Brentford as an under-16 before earning his scholarship, and the step up into the PDP environment was a significant one. Training intensity, physical demands and expectations all increase, but he feels he has adjusted well.
“The transition from the academy building into the PDP is a big step up,” he said. “As an under-16 you look up and you do feel a bit of pressure, but it’s all about showing your ability. Everyone who’s here deserves to be here, and I believe I’ve handled that step up well.”
Injuries over the summer limited his time on the pitch, but the period away from full training brought unexpected benefits. Redknapp focused heavily on upper-body conditioning, which he feels has helped him cope better with the physical side of the game.
“During pre-season I got injured and, over the whole summer, I was doing a lot of upper-body work,” he added. “Looking back, it really helped me physically, and that’s something I’ve carried into the season with me.”
Football is firmly part of the family, with Beau the son of former England international Jamie Redknapp. Beau's dad enjoyed a distinguished playing career with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, winning the League Cup in 1995 and earning 17 caps for England, before moving into a prominent media career. For Redknapp, having that experience close to home has been invaluable.
“He’s really helpful,” he said. “He knows what it takes to get to the top level. All I want from him is honesty; he’s my dad, but he’s also my mentor. He understands the hard work and sacrifice that’s needed, and having him in my corner is really special.
“He’s always encouraging me to stay focused, keep working hard and be patient with my development is what he always tells me to do. He reminds me that progress isn’t always instant and that setbacks are part of the journey."
Redknapp understands that his dad's experience is something he can learn a lot from, especially now as he builds his own path.
"Having someone with his experience to talk things through with gives me confidence, and it helps me stay grounded and focused on improving every day.”
Redknapp has also had the experience of scoring in high-profile moments, including a memorable late free-kick against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup. While the Bees were eventually beaten 2–1, the goal underlined his confidence and growing influence, as he continues to focus on contributing goals, assists and strong all-round performances for Gary McDermott’s side.
“It was great to score in front of my family,” he said. “I love scoring goals. Even though we didn’t get the win, scoring against Chelsea was an unforgettable experience. I loved every moment of that game and I really appreciate the fans for coming to support us.”
Looking ahead to 2026, Redknapp’s focus is on building momentum and continuing his development. His focus remains firmly on improvement. Clear targets have been set by the coaching staff, and he is determined to keep developing every aspect of his game.
“I just want to keep getting goals and assists,” he said. “Gary wants me to work on my decision-making on the ball and my work out of possession, tackling, regains and everything around that. I’m enjoying learning and pushing myself every day.”
McDermott's side are back in action for the first time in 2026 as they take on Swansea City away from home on Saturday 10 January.
