Hakim Sahabo (19) has signed a half-season loan contract with Beerschot. Born in Belgium in 2005 to a Rwandan mother, the midfielder has already played six international matches for the Rwandan national team.
Sahabo initially went through the youth academies of KRC Genk and Standard Liege, among others. In 2021 he moved to France and Lille, before the summer of 2023 saw him return to Belgium, where Standard resigned him.
Hakim mainly played for SL16 in the Challenger Pro League during the first half of the 2023-24 season. At the start of 2024 he got a starting place in Standard’s first team, for which he played nine games. This season, however, has proved a bit more difficult and he’s not yet appeared in the starting set up.
Hakim sees new opportunities at Beerschot, stating: “I am very happy that I signed for Beerschot. In my eyes, it is a big club in Belgium with passionate supporters. I hope to get playing minutes here again and take the next step in my development. Together with the trainers, teammates and supporters, I will do everything I can to help Beerschot stay in the first division.”
Hakim is already eligible to play and could therefore be selected for Beerschot’s match Croky Cup quarter-final against Anderlecht this evening.
