Belgium to pursue FIFA case after Balogun suspension row and rejected appeal | OneFootball

Belgium will press on with its case with FIFA over Folarin Balogun’s lifted suspension and praised the team’s response on the pitch, the Belgian federation said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Red Devils beat the United States 4-1 in the round of 16 in the early hours of Tuesday, with Balogun featuring. They will face Spain in the quarter-finals on Friday at 21:00.

FIFA cleared Balogun for the tie following a phone call from Donald Trump to Gianni Infantino. Belgium lodged an appeal, but it was rejected.

The federation’s demands include a disciplinary and governance framework built on legal certainty, transparency, equal treatment and fair play, with clear procedures and respect for the rights of the defence.

It also wants consistent, uniform application of the rules to preserve trust across the game, and for FIFA to uphold those principles to avoid any arbitrariness. The federation thanked millions of supporters and many other federations for their backing.
