Chelsea have been buying players at quite the rate for a few years now, and this week announced there will be two more joining this summer.
That’s all well and good – but what of the players already on the books?
We already saw some interesting comments on that front from Nizaar Kinsella earlier today which we covered here, now fellow insider Ben Jacobs has joined the party with his take on the story for TeamTalk.
The story so far – Joao Felix came to Chelsea in the second half of 2022-2023 and had some bright flashes, but ultimately did not impress overall and his loan wasn’t made permanent. After a year with Barcelona, Chelsea decided to go in for him last summer, buying him outright this time for £46.3m and putting him on a 7 year contract.
Predictably it didn’t work out, and he struggled for game time in the first half of the season. In January he went on loan to AC Milan where things have been even more difficult. All reports point to the fact that the Italian club will not be looking to make that move permanent either.

As it stands, Felix will be coming back to Chelsea this summer. But Jacobs reports that Chelsea are already keen to sell him. The idea is to sell Felix and Raheem Sterling (good luck with that) to fund a move for a number 9.
They don’t want to sell Felix for less than his book value (which would be something like £40m), and we’d think that sounds impossible, so another loan is more likely.
Here we are again in the Romelu Lukaku loan spiral – except at least he was a player we thought we wanted in a position we needed. Felix was not.
