Benfica are close to securing an experienced centre-back to replace Otamendi, with negotiations described as very advanced, according to Glorioso 1904.
The club have not disclosed the target’s identity.

Nicolás Otamendi has joined River Plate after his contract expired.
Benfica have already brought in Gabriel Índio, a 17-year-old Brazilian centre-back, and there is confidence in his potential.
Even so, the plan includes adding experience to balance a youthful defence, and the new signing could join the Benfica Campus in the coming days.
Preparations for the new season began early because of the Europa League qualifying schedule.
