Benfica said in a statement that Sidny Cabral has joined Trabzonspor on a five-year contract. The move ends his six-month spell following a January switch from Estrela da Amadora for around 6 million euros.

Trabzonspor will pay 7 million euros in three instalments, with Benfica retaining 20% of any future sale. Estrela da Amadora are due a payment as they kept 10% of his rights, and Benfica marked his exit with a message of thanks on social media.

Cabral, 23, made only 12 appearances for the first team, scoring once and registering three assists. He began to gain prominence under José Mourinho, but a shirt swap with Vinicius Júnior was followed by reduced minutes at Benfica.

He now heads to Trabzonspor in Türkiye, whose alumni include former Benfica striker Óscar Tacuara Cardozo. They finished last season third, eight points behind champions Galatasaray.

Before that comes Cape Verde’s historic World Cup appearance. The Blue Sharks are in Group H with Spain on 15 June, Uruguay on 21, and Saudi Arabia on 27.
