Anatolii Trubin’s last-gasp header for Benfica against Real Madrid on Wednesday knocked OM out of the Champions League on goal difference.
According to Le Progres, Marseille were heading for the play-offs until the final moments across a night of 18 fixtures. Despite a 3-0 defeat at Bruges, they still sat 24th.
Benfica were 25th and facing Real Madrid. José Mourinho’s side led 3-2 against Mbappé’s team and needed one more to overtake OM.
Madrid had two players, Raul Asencio and Rodrygo, sent off in added time. Trubin then met a free-kick with a header for 4-2.
The stunned keeper celebrated with his team-mates and Mourinho as Benfica climbed above OM to reach the play-offs.
