Benfica to host Belenenses in 24 July pre-season derby

Benfica will host Liga 3 side Belenenses in a pre-season derby at Estádio da Luz on 24 July at 18:00. The club said in a statement that it comes a day after their official season opener away to Swiss side St. Gallen.

On Saturday 11 July, Benfica were beaten 2-1 by Leonardo Jardim’s Flamengo in the Algarve, in their first game of the summer with fans present.

Marco Silva’s team play Villarreal this Friday, 17 July, at Estádio Algarve.

They then visit St. Gallen for the first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round on 23 July, before hosting the return in Lisbon on 30 July. The second leg will decide who advances.

The following day brings the Belenenses friendly at the Luz, which is expected to give minutes to players not involved in the European tie.

There may also be a friendly the day after the 30 July meeting.
