In the second half, Benfica sought to equalize the match, and the game became more open. The Eagles had some good opportunities but failed to capitalize. Chelsea tried to take advantage of Benfica's forward play through quick transitions but also failed to score, and the final whistle blew with the home team leading 1-0.

With this defeat – the second in 14 games this season – Benfica remains without points in the Champions League. José Mourinho's team temporarily occupies the 30th place. At the top of the standings are Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan, each with two wins in two matches.
