Manchester United’s new striker signing Benjamin Sesko has received some high praise from a former coach.

Challenging start

Sesko arrived at the club last month but has so far been outshone by his fellow attacking summer arrivals, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

The giant striker has not managed to score a goal in any of the four matches he has played for the club.

Nonetheless, it must be said that he has only been used as a second half substitute in all three league matches so far.

He played the entire game of the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town and almost grabbed a last-gasp winner before his side would go on to lose the penalty shootout.

High praise

Despite his slow start as a Red Devil, Sesko is one of the most highly rated young strikers in European football owing to his combination of height, physicality, touch and finishing prowess.

In comments carried by SI, former Red Bull Salzburg coach René Aufhauser has predicted that Benjamin Šeško has the “potential” to match Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Sesko played for Salzburg from 2019-2023 before moving to Leipzig.

Aufhaser commented that, “Benji, I think at the moment, maybe he’s a nine, nine and a half out of 10. And he has also potential. He will develop in the next one and two years, I’m sure.”

He elaborated, “Erling (Haaland) reached his mark after his transfer from [Borussia] Dortmund to Man City and we will see. I am quite sure Benji will reach this mark after one or two years. But of course, Erling is the top. He has 10 out of 10 from me.”

Sesko of course is only 22-years-old and adapting to a new league, so will still have much time to prove himself in a red shirt.

The Slovenia international will hope he has that chance when United go up against Haaland and City in the Manchester derby this weekend on Sunday 16:30 BST.
